Aftercare
Taking care of your tattoo is half the work it takes to make it last. Proper aftercare protects the artwork, keeps your skin healthy, and helps your tattoo heal bright and strong. At Atomic Tattoo, aftercare is one of our top priorities—we want every client to leave not only with a piece they love, but with the knowledge to care for it. We’ll walk you through each step so you feel confident about healing your new tattoo the right way.

The First Day
After your session, we’ll cover your new tattoo with a protective ‘second-skin’ bandage. During the first day of healing, it’s normal to see some ink and plasma collect under the bandage—this can look like a dark, cloudy patch or light ‘ink smears’ beneath the film. You may feel mild warmth, tenderness, or a tight, sunburn-like sensation around the area. As long as the bandage stays sealed, this is all part of a healthy healing process. Avoid peeling, poking, or lifting the edges, and let the second-skin do its job of keeping your fresh tattoo clean and protected.”
Healing Process
Leave your second-skin bandage on for the full time we recommend—this helps protect your tattoo and kickstart a smooth heal. Once it’s time to remove it, peel it off slowly, then gently wash the area with tattoo soap (a non-scented antibacterial soap like Dial works too). Pat the skin dry with a clean paper towel and apply a very thin layer of tattoo balm (A&D ointment is a great alternative and can be found at most Walmart, CVS, or Walgreens). Do this morning and night. Remember, your tattoo is an open wound: keep it out of the sun, away from pools, lakes, and hot tubs, and avoid heavy sweating on the area while it heals!
